A Huntingdon school is planning to do its bit to help improve safety on the road where one of its pupils was killed.
St Peter's School pupils will be holding a fund-raising day in memory of 16-year-old Warren Hay, from Alconbury, who died last May following an accident on the A141, near Huntingdon.
On February 1, the Huntingdon pupils will ditch their school uni
forms in favour of casual clothes and Warren Hay Road Safety Action Group T-shirts. Pupils will each have to pay £2 to take part in the fund-raising day.
All the money will be donated towards safety measures by the Kings Ripton Road junction where Warren was killed.
The action group is determined to find the extra resources needed to provide a light-controlled crossing at the A141, and a safe way of reaching Jubilee Park from Huntingdon.
Since forming, the group, which is led by Warren's mother, Maxine Hay, has collected more than 17,000 signatures from people who want to see safety improvements.
Cambridgeshire County Council has agreed to a £160,000 scheme which would see a ban on right turns into and out of the Kings Ripton junction on the A141 and a traffic island built.
